translationRecorder Information¶
This site is the official documentation for the translationRecorder user manuals.

Start a New Project (version 1.2.4)¶
Open the Program¶
- Tap on the translationRecorder program icon on the tablet screen.
- Create or login to your account.
- Tap on the Create Offline Account bar. You will be able to create an online Door43 account later.
Note: Tapping on the Cancel button will close the program.
- Use the keyboard and type in the actual name or a pseudonym of the translator. A “pseudonym” is a false name that is used instead of the real name of the person doing the work.
- Tap the blue ‘Continue’ button.
- Accept the ‘Privacy Notice’ by tapping on the blue word ‘Continue.’
- Read the three Terms of Use
- Tap on each of the blue bars.
- Read the content. You may need to scroll to see the entire contents of the ‘Translation Guidelines’ and the ‘Statement of Faith’.
- Tap on ‘Close’ at the bottom of each of the windows.
- Tap the blue I AGREE link at the bottom of the window if you agree with all three statements.
From the Recording Section (Pink)¶
NOTE: A new project can be started in the Recording Section when it is the first time translationRecorder is used (a new install.)
- From the home screen (half blue and half pink), tap in the pink area to start recording.
NOTE: You may tap on the left arrow in the top pink bar to go back to the previous screen at any time. You may want to go to the previous screen to make a different choice.
- Select the Target Language. (The Target Language is the language into which you will translate.)
- You can search for your desired language by tapping the magnifying glass.
- The Keyboard appears. Type in the language or language code. Close the keyboard by using the down arrow icon, or back arrow icon.
- You can also search by swiping from the bottom of the screen up to scroll through the languages. Tap on the desired language.
- Tap on the name of the desired Target Language. The program goes to the Choose a Project step.
- Choose a Project - Choose, by tapping once, from the choices of Bible: OT or Bible: NT.
- Choose a Book - Tap on a book in the Bible. Swipe up to see more book names.
- Choose a Translation Type - Tap to choose from the Unlocked Literal Bible or the Unlocked Dynamic Bible.
- Choose a Mode - Tap to choose either Verse or Chunk mode. This is how the information will be divided.
- The ‘Verse’ mode has each recording separated like a regular Bible, one verse at a time.
- The ‘Chunk’ mode has each recording separated according to groups of verses.
- Next, select the Source Audio. (The Source Language audio is the language from which you will translate.)
- You can search for the desired source language by tapping the magnifying glass.
- The Keyboard appears. Type in the language or language code. Close the keyboard by using the down arrow icon, or back arrow icon.
- You can also search by swiping from the bottom of the screen up to scroll through the languages.
- Tap on the name of the desired Source Language. The program goes back to the Source Audio window.
- Tap on the blue SELECT SOURCE LOCATION button.
- The file manager should open to the directory of where the audio files are located.
NOTE: The audio files are configured in this way: Language_3-letterbookcode_type.tr So, for the ULB audio of the book of Titus in Mandarin the file would be named “cmn_ulb_Titus.tr”.
Hint: You may need to look in the Internal Storage for the SourceAudio folder.
- Tap on the name of the desired Source Language audio file. The program goes back to the Source Audio window.
- Tap on the word ‘CONTINUE’ at the bottom right of the screen.
The recording window opens. You have now set all your settings and are ready to work within translationRecorder.
At any time you may tap the back arrow at the bottom left of the screen. That will take you out to the main menu.
From the Project Manager Section (Blue)¶
- From the home screen (half blue and half pink), tap in the blue area to access Projects.
- Tap on the pink ‘New Project’ button that is seen only on a new install. Or, tap on the blue circle with a white plus sign.
NOTE: You may tap on the left arrow in the top pink bar to go back to the previous screen at any time. You may want to go to the previous screen to make a different choice.
- Select the Target Language. (The Target Language is the language into which you will translate.)
- You can search for your desired language by tapping the magnifying glass.
- The Keyboard appears. Type in the language or language code. Close the keyboard by using the down arrow icon, or back arrow icon.
- You can also search by swiping from the bottom of the screen up to scroll through the languages. Tap on the desired language.
- Tap on the name of the desired Target Language. The program goes to the Choose a Project step.

Recording¶
Steps to Follow from the Recording Window¶
NOTE: See the “Detailed instructions for the Recording Window” section for complete instructions.
- On the home screen, tap in the pink recording area.
- Check the information on the top gray bar:
- Target Language
- Project Type
- Book
- Chapter
- Verse or Chunk
- Use the + and – signs to correct the chapter or verse/chunk number.
- Tap the microphone icon.
- Record the verse or chunk.
- Tap the pause icon when done saying the verse/chunk.
- Tap the check icon in the bottom pink bar.
- Edit and rate the recording. (See: http://tr-info.readthedocs.io/en/latest/editing.html)
- Save the recording. The recording window closes and the home screen shows.
- Repeat steps 1 to 9 for all verses in the book.
Steps to Follow from the File Manager¶
- On the home screen, tap in the blue file manager area.
- Tap on the project name bar.
- Tap on the chapter bar that needs to be recorded.
- On the verse bar that needs to be recorded, tap on the microphone icon.
- Check the information on the top gray bar:
- Target Language
- Project Type
- Book
- Chapter
- Verse or Chunk
- Use the + and – signs to correct the chapter or verse/chunk number.
- Tap the microphone icon.
- Record the verse or chunk.
- Tap the pause icon when done saying the verse/chunk.
- Tap the check icon in the bottom pink bar.
- Edit and rate the recording. (See: http://tr-info.readthedocs.io/en/latest/editing.html)
- Save the recording. The recording window closes and the file manager window for the verses in that chapter show.
- On the next verse bar that needs to be recorded, tap on the microphone icon.
- Repeat steps 8 to 13 for all verses in the book.
Detailed instructions for the Recording Window¶
Starting at the home screen:
- Click anywhere in the pink section to take you into the Recorder.
- If the Security warning shows – Tap in the box before the words ‘Do not remind again.’ so that there is a check mark in the box. Then tap the word ‘ALLOW.’ (This is the only time you will need to check and allow.)
You are now in the Recorder. You can see the Target Language, the Source, the Book, the Chapter and the Verse in the gray bar at the top of the screen.
- Tap on the play button in the gray bar at the bottom of the screen to listen to the source language of that particular verse/chunk.
- Listen to the verse or chunk. The green dot will move along the line. The numbers on the left of the line count down and the numbers on the right count up the length of the audio recording.
- Tap the microphone icon in the pink bar to start Recording.
- Speak clearly and loudly into the microphone. As you begin to speak you will see a wavy line appear on the screen which is a result of the sound of your voice.
- When done with that portion tap the pause button.
- You can then start recording again by tapping on the microphone icon, or tap the checkmark to go to the edit screen.

Compare the recording to the Source Language recording¶
- To compare your recording to the Source Language recording press the hearing ear icon and press the play icon on the gray bar.
- To pause the recording tap the pause button on the gray bar (the pause icon replaces the play icon.)
- To rewind (go towards the beginning of the recording) or fast forward (go towards the end of the recording) press and hold the green dot and slide your finger to the left for rewind or to the right to fast forward.
- To return to your recording press the wave button.
Remove a section of recording¶
- Line up the thin red line where you want to start removing some of the recording.
Note: The red line does not move.
- Press-and-hold to move the recording to the red line.
- Press the flag icon. This will insert a marker where the cut will start.
- Set the ending point of the cut.
- Drag the recording by holding your finger on the screen and sliding to the left until the end of the part to be removed is at the red line.
- Tap the flag button. This will mark the section for deletion.
Optional: Tap the play icon to listen to the section that will be removed.
- Delete the selected recording.
- Tap on the crossed-off flags to remove the flags and start at step 1 again.
- Tap on the scissors icon to delete the selected recording.
- Tap on the back arrow to undo the last edit.
Insert a new section of recording.¶
- Line up the thin red line where you want the recording to be inserted. (Use the tap-hold-swipe action.)
- Tap the Add a Recording icon in the top gray bar. This will open a new recording session.
- Tap the microphone icon to start recording.
- When finished, tap the pause icon.
- To insert the new recording, tap the checkmark icon.
- A pop up will appear stating it is inserting recording … please wait.
- The original target language recording opens with the added recording.
To save the file tap the save icon. * A ‘Saving’ pop-up shows.
Once it is done saving it will open the file manager with your most recent file on top.
Rate the Target Language Recording¶
If the recording is done well, then add a star rating to the recording.
Tap on the star icon in the top gray bar. The ‘Rate this take’ window opens.
- The term “take” is another word for a recording.
Tap on one of the three stars to rate.
- The star on the left for a 1-star rating – meaning this is a good recording. The star turns red.
- The middle star for a 2-star rating – meaning this is a better recording. The stars turn yellow.
- The star on the right for a 3-star rating – meaning this is an excellent recording. The stars turn green.
Tap on ‘OK’ to save the rating.

How to download:
- Go to the the page above.
- Find the desired book/chapter for the translation work.
- Click on the link in the URL column.
- Download the file to the tablet or computer (to transfer to the tablet later.)
